One of the books on my recommendations list is "Skinny Chicks Don't Eat Salads; Stop Starving, Start Eating...And Losing!" By Christine Avaniti, CN This book on Amazon
This book is a bit more technical of a read compared to my other choices, but it is very powerful. She talks about how it is not about how many calories you consume but more importantly the source of your calories. She delves a lot into the protein/carb/fat combination.
She also points out that you should divide your plate into 4 quarters:
1 quarter should be starchy carbs,
1 quarter should be protein and
2 (yes 2..) should be fruits and vegetables.
This ~alone~ is a way to kick start your healthy eating regimen.
The point of her title is that you don't lose weight by starving yourself with only salads, but instead by filling your body up with the proper nutrients at the right time.
Back to the Dressing for Success: The truth of the matter is: Salads are a great way to get the proper protein/carb/fat combination that she talks about and if made right, they are super delicious and healthy.
My favorite quick salad dressing is salsa, (the kind you get in the plastic tub from the deli) but every once in a while you may want to switch things up and make one of the following dressings. They will keep in a glass container for quite a while.
Balsamic Blue Cheese:
1/2 tsp minced garlic
3 tsp balsamic vinegar
2 Tbsp crumbled blue cheese
Asian:
1/2 tsp white vinegar
3 tsp Hoison sauce A little about Hoison Sauce
2 Tbsp chopped scallions
Citrus Cilantro
1/2 tsp hot sauce
3 tsp lime juice
2 Tbsp cilantro
